Church History
Church Land Purchase
The land on which the church was built was purchased from the late Hon. Dick Wathika during the tenure of Rev Canon Kamba, then Vicar of St. James Buru Buru, the curate then was Rev. John Anzaya.
Land lease and levelling
In April 2001, the then Vicar for St. James Buru Buru Ven. Canon Joel Waweru, current Bishop of Nairobi Diocese, leased the plot where the church stands now allowing the removal of a large hill of sand and garbage to pave way for the beginning of the church construction
Foundation Stone laid
The foundation stone was laid on 9th June 2002 by the Late Most Rev. Dr. David Gitari, the former Archbishop and Bishop for Nairobi Diocese without any congregation.
The Late Mr. Arthur Kariuki, the proprietor of Planet Guest house situated in Umoja inner core, allowed
the first congregation to gather in his premises for worship. "It goes without saying that this
Parish was born in a guest house".
Rev. Muraguri - Church Vicar
Rev. Muraguri serves as Vicar from 2002.
Church Concencration
The ACK St. Luke's Church was consecrated on 16th December 2007 by the then Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Peter N. Njoka. Rev. Dr. Humphrey Muraguri was posted as the first Vicar in the year 2002 with 33 members and the first collection that Sunday was a meager Kshs 811.00.
Church Vicar - Ven. John S, Anzaya
In 2010 Ven. John S, Anzaya was posted as the 2nd Vicar. This Parish has grown numerically. currently having approximately 2,500 members - 60% being female while the rest are male with only 1,200 as registered.
Daughter Church - St. Thomas Aquinas
ACK St, Luke's raised a daughter church St. Thomas Aquinas which became Parish on its own 2017, Currently, St. Luke's has a daughter church - ACK St. Anselm KCC Church which has a congregation of about 60 members.
Canon John Maina - Church Vicar
Canon John Maina serves as the church Vicar from 2018
Canon Peter Maina - Church Vicar
Ven. Canon Peter Maina serves as church vicar from November 2020 and serves as
Archdeacon, Kayole Archdeaconry.
